Resumo: The energy supply through the lactic anaerobic system is the main ATP resynthesis way during activities of 60 seconds to 2 minutes, when performed intensely. This practice can result in acidosis and severe muscle fatigue. Therefore, a supplementary strategy that proves to be beneficial to mitigate these effects can be of great value to athletes and practitioners of physical exercises. Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the effects of sodium bicarbonate supplementation on performance markers and muscle damage in trained individuals. Individuals with previous experience in strength training, residents of the city of Viçosa-MG, who did not present any exclusion criteria that could interfere with the research results were selected for the study. The supplementation protocol followed the double-blind, placebo- controlled model, where the subjects were randomly divided into two groups (GEX and GPL), where one group received a progressive dosage of sodium bicarbonate during a period of 10 days, and in the other the same dosage for the same period but containing a placebo. Supplementation was provided through gastro-resistant capsules, aiming to minimize possible gastric discomfort caused by bicarbonate supplementation. As a fatigue protocol, the subjects were submitted to an eccentric strength training, in 20 series of 12 repetitions in the leg extension chair. As markers of performance and muscle damage, 1RM, muscle power, CVIM, CMJ, and ROM tests were performed. The tests will be performed before the first training protocol for initial analyses, after the fatigue protocol to verify the decrease in performance, and after the supplementation period and the second fatigue protocol, in order to identify if there was a decrease in the performance drop. of the initial tests in relation to the final post- supplementation test. The results of the present study indicate an advantage for the group that supplemented with bicarbonate in the performance of the 1RM test, but not for the other indicators of damage and performance. As a conclusion of the study, it was identified that the supplementation with sodium bicarbonate in progressive dosage presents benefits only in the maximum force, in trained individuals.
