| Abstract: | This work aims to investigate the relationships the setting and relationships different sources of innovation in a small software firm. A qualitative, exploratory, and longitudinal research was conducted to investigate innovation events and related sources between 1984 and 2011. The results show that the entrepreneur plays a central role: i) in the articulation of structural factors (market, networks and technological trajectories) and ii) on the absorption and dissemination of knowledge necessary to develop innovations in the firm. From the results, the study suggests that external factors are crucial for innovation, placing absorptive capacity and entrepreneur as central concepts for studies related to the development of new software products. |
