Abstract: | Wildlife identification on the context of Legal Veterinary Medicine is a field that has had great advances over the last decade, for embracing aspects related to One Health, welfare and crimes against animals. Therefore, the standardization of techniques that canbe applied in cases of animal traffic is of great importance. Among them, the forensic genetic is a reliable, safe and innovating tool for the determination of species and the origin of suspicious samples that constitute a crime according to the art. 29 of the Brazilian Law of Environmental Crimes (9.605/98). In this context, studies have demonstrated the efficiency of using mitochondrial DNA through the technique of DNA barcodefor the identification of species. |
