Resumo: This dissertation seeks to discuss the concept of sustainability based on criticism and new views on the idea of development, considering the need to stablish a praxis that encompasses its objectives in other areas, in particular, from Education. The work was structured in two pieces: an introductory part, with the proposal’s presentation, its objectives, methodological basis, theoretical framework and references; and one second piece, and with the first version of an essay-article that will be submitted to a scientific journal in the Interdisciplinary and Education areas. As a method, bibliographical research was used, which allowed the interpretation of the literature considered as a reference for the themes covered throughout the construction of the narrative and argumentative process. The conceptual bases of the work came from Environmental Geography, Political Ecology and Environmental Education. This theoretical framework allowed us to discuss ideas exposed in publications that were analyzed from a critical perspective, focusing on the ideas inherent to the Good Living and the Systems World View. From this, Education was thought of as a central element and as an agent that enhances these ideas. The discussion showed the importance of considering the limelight of ecological and social spheres when considering the possibilities and perspectives of sustainability. The main considerations highlight the importance of integrating different ideas and worldviews into a perspective of Education that is interdisciplinary, critical, comprehensive and emancipatory, seeking to converge towards a reinterpretation of sustainable development and the environment. This convergence must be understood as one of the central elements of formal and non-formal education, as it can lead to the necessary and urgent transformation demanded by society. Based on an understanding of the environment as a whole and social transformation as an objective, these perspectives can contribute to the establishment of alternatives to development and a reinterpretation of the environment and human actions on it.
