Resumo: Staphylococcos aureus is a commensal bacterium in the body of humans and animals, being present mainly in mucous membranes. Although it seems harmless, this bacteria can cause both infections and food poisoning. Certain strains of S. aureus carry multiple resistance – resulting in clinical and epidemiological problems that must be prevented in the best possible way, one of which is hand hygiene. It is known that essential oils and plant extracts have a wide spectrum of biological activities that are important for the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, one of which is antimicrobial. Seeking to obtain soap with antimicrobial action, this work sought to associate a certain liquid soap base with mixtures of essential oils and evaluate their in vitro efficiency on the strain of S. aureus ATCC 13565. The essential oils of Carnation Botão (Eugenia caryophyllus), citronella (Cymbopogon winteriaus), ho wood (Cinnamomum camphora) and lavender oil (Lavandula angustifolia) were added to the experiments at a concentration of 2% (v/v). The minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBC) of each oil were , respectively: Ho Wood, Clove and Citronella, 2.5; 5 and 1.25% (v/v). Based on the CMB, 15 tests were generated using the DCCR, varying the concentrations of these oils and lavender essential oil (2%, v/v) was added to it. Of the 15 tests, 9 completely inhibited the in vitro growth of S. aureus, therefore, three tests were selected to continue the work. These were trial number 15, as it contained the lowest total value of essential oil (4.46%, v/v), trial number 8, as it contained the highest value (6.6%, v/v) and trial number 8, as it contained the highest value (6.6%, v/v). ° 12, as it contains an intermediate amount of essential oils (4.96%, v/v). The incorporation of essential oils into liquid soap showed that the antimicrobial action of the oils was not affected, with significant death of S. aureus cells being observed in all treatments. Therefore, the results suggest that the preparation of liquid soap added with essential oils is interesting for cleaning skin wounds.
