Abstract: Energy availability in rural areas of Mozambique remains one of the major challenges for the government, the population and researchers.Several reasons are considered as evidence for the lack of electricity in these areas, one of them is the economic feasibility (cost versus benefit) of rural electrification projects (low income, geographical spread of the community). On the other hand, energy availability in a rural community, allows the insertion of many services for the local population, essentially diversifying the activities of source of income, contributing significantly to the improvement of their lives. In this present project analyzed the feasibility of electrifying the locality of Matica in Sussundenga, through an off-grid photovoltaic system, compared to the expansion of the National Electricity Grid (NEG), from the hydro source, in order to make the locality an energetic potential. The results obtained show the viability of the off-grid photovoltaic system in which, with local solar radiation ranging from 4.64kWh/m2 to 6.112kWh/m2, and an initial investment of $615,570, it is possible to have a return on capital in approximately 5 years in a total of 20 years of useful life, benefiting approximately 1250 families, 1 health center, 2 schools and 1 building that works as an administrative post.
