Abstract: | Sixty hearts of two distinct hybrid swine commercial lineages (A and B), (30 hearts from each), approximately 180 days old were studied. The hearts obtained were from animals of the DZO – UFLA, in Lavras, MG. Each heart was washed and emptied, having their coronary arteries dissected and cannulated separately and injected with latex. Afterwards, the hearts were fixed for 72 hours. The myocardial bridges were dissected and soon afterwards, had their widths measured using a manual caliper. All statistical analyses were conducted using the SAS statistical program. All the animals of the lineage A presented bridges, while only one animal of the lineage B did not. The size and the width of the bridges did not differ (P>0.05) among the lineages and in both a higher amount of bridges were observed in the right coronary artery. Positive correlation was observed (P < 0.01) between the size of the right bridge with the size of the left heart in the lineages A (r = 0.442) and B (r = 0.518). It was concluded that the size of the heart is similar among animals of the same age, but that the occurrence of myocardial bridges can be absent in some lineages. |
