Abstract: The echocardiography has become an important complementary examination for definitive diagnosis of cardiopathy in both humans and in veterinary medicine. Thus, new echocardiographic tools are added to cardiologic routine and two-dimensional speckle tracking is the most recently technique used in veterinary medicine. In some species such as dogs and cats, this tool has proved to be suitable for evaluating global and regional changes in myocardial function over time. Furthermore, with this technique can determine systolic and diastolic dysfunction, differential diagnosis of hypertrophic heart disease and other pathologies that modify myocardial contractility. Thus, we can detect changes early primary, allowing the clinician to an appropriate treatment.
