Abstract: | Also known as meroanencephaly, it is a congenital malformation originated from an abnormal neurulation. It is the most frequent and lethal amongst the abnormalities of the central nervous system, occurring at least once in every 1.000 births. It is more common on females than males (roughly twice or four times). Uncountable factors may cause this abnormality, for example: teratogens are able to produce a congenital abnormality or increase the incidence of it in a particular population, environmental factors such as drugs and infections that may simulate genetic conditions that benefit the emergence of these malformations. Thereby, it is extremely important to know better about the malformations and its factors of risk, so people can understand its possible appearance. |
