Abstract: Introduction: The campus of the Federal University (UFLA) Lavras is an area with several types of soils that are still poorly researched. A greater knowledge of these soils will be of fundamental importance, for example, for the choice of the best areas for the production of soil cement bricks. Objective: To carry out the geotechnical characterization of two types of soils existing at UFLA in order to evaluate their potential for the production of soil-cement bricks. Methods: For this study, two locations were chosen, according to an existing literature, from the criterion of greater sand contents. Subsequently, these two soils were characterized and evaluated for their granulometry, liquidity limit (LL), plasticity limit (LP), apparent mass (ρ) and compaction. A microscopic analysis was also performed employing scanning electron microscopy techniques (SME) and electron dispersion spectroscopy (EDS) in order to verify the surface area and chemical elements of massifs. Results: He results showed that soils have large concentrations of aluminum and oxygen in their chemical composition. Its microstructure demonstrated microfractures due to a small amount of firm; The insertion of a cementing element to the ground may help to avoid this phenomenon. The consistency limits and parameters arising from the compaction curves showed within the normative limits for the production of soil brick cement. Conclusion: Both studied massifs presented good percentages of sand and are therefore ideal materials in the production of solo brick cement.
