Abstract: | This paper aims to investigate a rather curious encounter of traditions. How a paraphrase of Plotinus' work, attributed to Aristotle, could have influenced the elaboration of an argumentative scheme that, apparently, aimed to use the Greek heritage received by the Arabs in the sixth century, in disputed questions on the context of nascent Islam. More specifically, our work goes deeper into some relationships that can be raised between Aristotle's Theology, a paraphrase of Plotinus' Enneads, that circulated among the Arabs of the period, and Al-Kindi's First Philosophy, famous work, unfinished, whose first part (text that came to us), is intended to point out how the investigation of the foundations of nature leads to the understanding of what he calls the "True One", the principle that sustains the entire Universe as its creative foundation. Although unfinished, the first part of this work by Al-Kindi already indicates his inclination to use elements of Aristotle's Theology in order to elaborate what we can call a proof of the existence of God. |
