Abstract: | Assuming that photography is a form of language, a visual text that narrates communicates ideas and leads to the production of meanings, this article seeks to reflect on its dialogical, and formative potential. In this sense, it assumes as its objective, to identify the aesthetic, cultural and educational elements considering education for the senses from the perspective of art. To this end, Vivian Maier’s photographs will be analyzed, focusing on her urban records on childhood in New York City in the second half of the twentieth century. Based on the concepts of image and visual literacy supported on the studies of Vilém Flusser, Walter Benjamin, Alberto Manguel, Susan Sontag and Lucia Santaella, among other authors that contemplate the themes addressed in this text, it is expected to contribute to a closer dialogue with the photographic image, considering its informative and educational dimension to sensitivity, without losing sight of its dialectical potential. |
