Resumo: Tournefortia paniculata Vent, a synonym of Myriopus paniculatus (Cham.) Feuillet, is a plant known as marmelinho and popularly used as a diuretic and antidiabetic. Studies on its biological and phytochemical activities are scarce. Thus, this study aimed to characterize the chemical profile and the effect of Tournefortia panicuextracts on the α-glucosidase enzyme, protein glycation and vascular tone. The extracts were obtained by reflux, from the dried and pulverized, with solvents of different polarities: hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, methanol, and water. In the in vitro inhibition test of the α-glucosidase enzyme, the extracts (1mg/mL) that had the best performance were ethyl acetate (60.3 ±8%) and methanol (56.2 ±5.4%) in the other concentrations no inhibition was observed. All extracts (1mg/mL), except the aqueous extract, showed antiglycant activity: Hexane (82.5±7.5%), dichloromethane (84.3±0.88%), ethyl acetate (95.2± 1.8%) and methanol (89.7±5.6%). The evaluation of the relaxing potential after serotonin again showed that the most potent results were from the ethyl acetate (83.4 ±4.0%) and methanol (64.1 ±15.6%) extracts. The relation between the chemical profile and its biological activities was also evaluated through chromatographic profile by HPLC-DAD and principal component analysis (PCA). The PCA between the biological activities and the areas of the 10 major peaks of the chromatographic profiles indicated a positive correlation between the ethyl acetate and methanol extract and its biological effect. It is concluded that Tournefortia panicu, especially ethyl acetate and methanol extract, has potential for the prevention and treatment of diabetes, as well as for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
