Abstract: | With aging, the body seeks adaptations as a way of survival. Oxidative stress acts as a great adjunct to the advancement of aging, causing disharmony in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to numerous diseases. Several, potent bioactive substances are constantly studied to express an improvement in mechanisms involved in aging. Coumarin is a substance in the class of polyphenols. It was initially found in Tonka beans and thanks to the possibility of structural rearrangements, today more than 1500 coumarin derivatives are found. With antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal effects, it is widely used in the pharmaceutical field. From this, the objective of this study was to verify the influence of the use of the synthetic coumarin compound 4-methyldinafetine (CM 4-MTD) in the toxicity analyzes of the compound; antibacterial activity; antioxidant activity, in addition to performing stress tests, such as: osmotic, thermal, and oxidative in C. elegans worms. Initially in the obtained data, the compound showed 92% of antioxidant activity already in small concentrations (25ug/ml) through the analysis of DPPH. In the following tests, CM 4-MTD did not show antibacterial responses. The worms did not show stress reduction or significant improvement in longevity with the use of the compound. Therefore, the CM 4-MTD compound expresses a high antioxidant activity, however, it has no biological effects in protecting against stress or contributing to longevity in C. elegans worms. |
