Abstract: | Ants have an important role in the maintenance and functioning of natural ecosystems, and the removal of seeds by these organisms can contribute to the regeneration of impacted areas. Aiming to discuss how the seed removal by ants can help in the regeneration process of areas impacted by anthropogenic activities, we verified the ant species involved in this process around the Small Hydropower of Pandeiros. We had a removal rate of 70.33% of the provided seeds. We observed 37 species removing seeds or consuming the resource at the place, with Ectatomma edentatum and Dorymyrmex brunneus as the most frequent species. We concluded the seed removal by ants may favor seed dispersal, natural regeneration, and vegetation spots establishment in impacted areas. |
