Resumo: The objective of the work is to report and analyze an experience lived in the discipline of Methodology of Teaching of Botany. This experience was based on the development of an activity in order to teach the theme Vegetal Biodiversity. It was developed through the reading of some fragments of the letter by Pero Vaz de Caminha, construction of a drawing from reading and also a discussion about paintings that portray Brazilian colonization. The activity was evaluated by the students of the discipline. This assessment was analyzed through discourse analysis, based on the theoretical framework of the Bakhtin Circle, and through the statements present in the statements. The identified statements address questions regarding the methodology used, the content addressed, new possibilities for addressing themes. The statements were: Interactive Class; Possibility of imagination and creativity; Methodologies and context for teaching the theme. It is concluded, with the practice performed, the importance of the presence of resources such as the letter of Pero Vaz de Caminha, because these didactic materials can check the interaction between teacher-student and help the improvement of the creative abilities of the individuals through the imagination, assisting in the construction of knowledge, however, the teacher in initial training must obtain contact as pedagogical didactic activities so that he can work with these resources in his classes, taking these as mediating materials that provide the student's interest in the content.
