Abstract: This study aimed at using the canonical correlation analysis to verify associations between the group formed by wood characteristics and the group formed by the characteristics of the charcoal obtained from Eucalyptus clones, focusing on the non-destructive method called Pylodin. Seven Eucalyptus clones and 24 sample observations were used. The multivariate Wilk’s Lambda test was used to evaluate the significance of the canonical roots. Only the first canonical function was significant and presented high canonical R² (0.9141). The first canonical function shows that: a) The higher depth of penetration of the Pilodyn pin is associated with the lower basic density, lower lignin and total extractives content, lower gravimetric yield in charcoal and higher holocellulose content. b) There is a tendency of high lignin and total extractives contents and lower holocellulose contents being associated with wood of higher calorific value and basic density. c) Gravimetric yield in charcoal is negatively related with holocellulose content and positively with lignin and total extractives contents and basic density of the wood. These results show the possibility of using this multivariate technique to make inferences about the quality and production of charcoal from Eucalyptus clones.
