Resumo: The objective of this study was to evaluate the wood potential of Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla planted in Mato Grosso state for use as energy forests. Sampling was random by collecting three trees, which were analyzed by removing discs in longitudinal positions of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the commercial height with six years. To evaluate the specific mass, cellular elements, soluble and insoluble lignin, total extractives, inorganic components and superior calorific power were removed opposing wedges from the disks sampled. The wood was evaluated in the carbonization in charcoal yield, pyroligneous liquor and non condensable gases. The charcoal was evaluated by chemical analysis with the determination of volatile materials, ash and fixed carbon content on dry basis. It was found that there is no significant to effect longitudinal position sampling for specific mass, vessel length, fiber length, fiber wall thickness, fiber lumen diameter and fiber width. The fixed carbon content was very close to the values reported in the literature. The observed values of lignin and extractives are average for eucalyptus wood.The hybrid of E grandisxE urophylla planted in Mato Grosso has satisfactory properties as energy forests.Thus, it can supply the energy demand in the form of firewood and charcoal, serving agricultural industries and other segments.
