Abstract: This work reports the synthesis and characterization of a resin produced from waste tire. This resin has been applied in the removal of contaminants in water. The process of obtaining the resin consists in modifying the chemical structure of the waste with the addition of sulfonic groups. For the adsorption tests were used textile dyes (cationic and anionic) and heavy metals, such as chromium, copper, iron and zinc. The findings pointed out that this resin can be a promising new material for the removal of contaminants in the aqueous medium.
