Abstract: | This study evaluated the urban afforestation of the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil. A tree inventory was carried out distributing the neighborhoods in 4 sectors of the urban perimeter. Streets and avenues were used to quantify and classify individuals, excluding squares and forests. For the pilot survey, through systematic sampling, a sampling adequacy of 241 sample units was identified (3.86% of the total). For the purpose of systematization and tree evaluation, the 30 most abundant species were considered. In each evaluated sector, problems related to phytosanitary issues and conflicts with urban equipment were identified. Results showed that the most abundant species was Ficus benjamina L. (37.42%). In the tree inventory, 15.23% of the individuals had problems with insects, 19.88% presented damage caused by microorganism, 42.49% have conflicts with public air equipment, 37.10% with terrestrial equipment and 28.65% with physical damages. It is concluded that the urban afforestation of João Pessoa needs a management plan through a program of systematic registration and tree monitoring of the city, with a set of proposed actions. |
