Abstract: Non-destructive methods are becoming an important alternative for predicting the wood characteristics. The predictions ease and accuracy have led many companies to adopt these new methods. Assessing the wood quality by simpler and faster techniques is a fundamental need in the Eucalyptus forests qualification. This study aimed to investigate some different methods of wood nondestructive evaluation, namely: "(1) Resistograph, (2) Pilodyn, and (3), and Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS)" to predict the wood basic density. Six different three-year-old eucalyptus clones, planted commercially in the spacing of 3.0 x 3.3, were used for this study. The samples were collected in Minas Gerais, from different regions (Cocais, Guanhães, Rio Doce, and Santa Bárbara). We used five trees per clone. The technique to estimate the basic density with the highest accuracy was resistograph followed by the NIR and finally Pilodyn.
