Abstract: Changes on economy, society and environment occurring since the second half of last century have drawn the basis of industrial competitiveness worldwide. Thereby, the management of production became important and strategic. Towards this situation, the issue of the current theoretical essay is: what are the contributions of the main production patterns emerged from last centuries to the current pattern of production? There is an evolutionary course among these patterns with technological advances and new means to produce, however without rejecting totally any of them. This paper aims to analyze the contribution of handmade, mass and lean patterns of production to the current one. The paper is a theoretical essay, thus it consists on discussion and logical and reflective exposure. The main contribution of this work is the characterization of a current pattern resulting from constant changes and adaptations to the prevalents, which was called hybrid pattern.
