Abstract: | The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of color nets and full sunlight on growth, essential oil content and chemical composition of oregano leaves (Origanum vulgare L.). The treatment was carried out in 10 liter (L) pots containing 3 parts of soil, 2 parts of cattle manure and one part of sand mixture with a plant per pot. The pots were distributed in a completely randomized design with 6 repetitions with 4 pots each as the following treatments: 1) Black chromatinet; 2) Red chromatinet; 3) Blue chromatinet and 4) Full sunlight. It was observed that the color nets influenced plant growth, essential oil content and quality of oregano leaves. The color nets had not influenced the total dry biomass and foliar area, however the full sunlight reduced significantly those variables. The red and black color nets are promising when the goal is the extraction of cis-sabinene hydrate and transsabinene hydrate (red net) and thymol (black net). |
