Resumo: | The inclusion of Afro-Brazilian and indigenous themes as mandatory in the curriculum of elementary education, enforced by Laws 10,639/2003 and 11,645/2008, has generated a heated debate in Brazil. Early childhood education is a crucial stage for such themes given the intertwining pedagogical practices of “taking care” and “teaching”. Within this context, this article aims to analyze early childhood education in light of the inclusion of ethnic-racial issue in schooling practices. This study relies and engages with the current studies on race, racism and ethnicity, as well as on the mandatory policies that support this new approach on school. We develop an experience report in an early childhood education public school. Our findings make a call for joint efforts to ensure the inclusion of ethnic-racial relations as strategic theme to overcome racism and the negative outcomes it produces in the school context. |
