Abstract: | In order to produce healthy seedlings and other plant qualities it is necessary to choose a substrate that enable a satisfactory seedlings development. In addition, it is essential the search for fertilizing methods, which may diminish the costs and the environment impact. Following this idea, the present work aimed to evaluate the use of avocado residue as a substrate on the yellow passion fruit seedling nursery. The experiment was carried out on the Fruit Department in the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), located in the city of Lavras, MG. The experiment design was Random Block Design (RBD), with six treatments, four replications and ten plants per parcel, varying the amount of byproduct utilized. The treatments comprising a commercial substrate (SC) and the avocado residue (SA), therefore: T1= 0% SA+ 100% SC; T2 = 20% SA+ 80% SC; T3= 40% SA+ 60% SC; T4= 60% SA+40% SC; T5= 80% SA+ 20% SC; T6= 100% SA+ 0% SC. The following characteristics were analysed: length of shoot in cm, stem diameter, number of leaves per plant and germination percentage. The use of avocado ‘Fortuna’ byproduct on low concentrations might be used on the production of passion fruit seedlings. The use of concentrations above 25% may cause an inhibitory effect on the development of seedlings. |
