Abstract: | In a survey in Lavras, Minas Gerais state, Brazil, two populations of the genus Heterorhabditis were obtained from soil by the insect baiting technique. Light and scanning electron microscopy and DNA characterization were used for identification. Both populations can invade and develop in Galleria mellonella larvae and are morphologically similar to H. indica, H. baujardi, H. amazonensis and H. mexicana. Observation of scanning electron photographs indicates that morphometrics of both populations are similar to that in H. amazonensis. Similarities were found in the molecular sequence of the LSU D2D3 region. Morphological and molecular studies of the two populations showed that these nematodes are isolates of H. amazonensis. |
