Abstract: The swine`s meat is the most consumed worldwide, so it is very important to increase the swine`s production through the reproductive efficiency of breeding males. The selenium is a constituent of glutathione peroxidase, which protects the sperm membrane against free radicals oxidative action. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of selenium shots on boars in natura seminal parameters. During the months of August to December 2007, four boars received two selenium shots. From each animal, 13 ejaculates were collected before the application of selenium and 13 after. The average values obtained with volume, motility, aspect, sperm concentration and total of sperm cells of swine semen were subjected to test t for paired data using the SAS statistical program. There was no significant difference for the parameters, therefore, concluded that the use of selenium shots did not alter the parameters of boars semen in natura.
