Abstract: | The soil is extremely important for civil construction, and must have good resistance and withstand the loads imposed for what was designed. The objective of the research was to compare the resistance of natural soil and with the addition of cement, so that it is used in flexible pavements, increasing its useful life. Cambisol and Latosol were analyzed in this work. First, the optimum moisture was determined by Proctor essay, obtaining 26.40% of optimum moisture for Cambisol and 30.42% for Latosol. Then, axial compression tests were carried out with different percentages of cement, in which the Cambisol was less resistant than the Latosol for all factors analyzed. For Cambisol, by adding 50% of cement, an increase in strength of sixteen times greater than natural soil was observed. For the Latosol, this increase, maintained the same percentage of cement, was approximately of nine times. It was also confirmed that, in both soils, the addition of cement increases its strength. Direct shear tests were also performed, in which the Latosol was more resistant than the Cambisol, being able to absorb more efforts requested. In these trials, results were not significant as predicted for Cambisol. For the Latosol in natura, when the specimens were submitted to the lowest weight (70 kgf) they resisted to 597 KPa and this resistance increased as the weights increased, reaching the maximum value of 870 KPa, when submitted to the highest weight (190 kgf). |
