Abstract: | The objective of this study is to determine body composition and somatotype in professional men soccer players belonging to the first division of the National Association of Professional Soccer Chile 92 classified by its position in the field. SAMPLE:30 male professional soccer players, with a mean age of 25,46 ± 5,16, weight 74,90 ± 6,70 Kg, height 175,61 ± 5,31 cm, classified by their position in the field as goalkeepers (ARQ) Defenses (DEF) defensive midfielders (MED DEF), offensive midfielders (MED OF) and forwards (DEL). METHODOLOGY: to assess the body composition the Ross and Kerr (1991) formula is used, which has a distribution of five areas Fat Mass (MG, Muscle Mass (MM), Bone Mass (MO), Residual Mass (MR) and Skin Mass (MP) and to calculate somatotype, the Carter and Heath (1990) formula is used, determining the Endomorphic, Mesomorphic and Ectomorphic components that classify somatotype, as recommended by the International Society of Kinanthropometry (ISAK). RESULTS: in terms of body composition the following middle range values are obtained, MA 20,12%, MM 50,12 %, MO 11,51%, MR 12,95%, MP 5,28%. On the Heath-Carter somatotype classification a middle mesomorphism is obtained (2,3 –4,5 –1,8), classifying as balanced Mesomorphic. CONCLUSIONS: the study group (n=30) shows a balanced Mesomorphism characteristic (2,3 –4,5 –1,8), maintaining the normal intergroup tendency, with differences only in the defensive midfielders (MED DEF) that show Meso-Endomorphic somatotype (3,0 –5,5 –1,3), goalkeepers (ARQ) (2,2 –3,9 –2,2), defenses (DEF) (1,9 –4,8 –1,7), offensive midfielders (MED OF) (2,5 –4,6 –2,0) and forwards (DEL) (2,0 –3,9 –2,2) show balanced Mesomorphism. In the body composition assessment mean values are obtained for each meassured parameter of MA=20,12% -MM=50,12% –MO=11,51% -MR=12,95% -MP=5,28%; above mean values were found with characteristic differences in each of the playing positions; MEDOF, MA=21,17%; DEF, MM=51,39%, MO=12,21%; MEDDEF, MR=13,98%; y DEL, MP=5,45%. This information helps to understand the somatotype characteristic of each playing position. |
