Abstract: The study was carried out to examine the consequences of different percentages of contamination on the production of seeds of F1 double hybrid. The contamination examined is caused by no removal of the tassel from the female lines when the equilibrium population derived from the simple hybrid is used as a female parent. The treatments evaluated were eight percentages with plants of the female parent (C) on the performance of the F1 generation of the UFLA 1 double hybrid (H) in three locations. The experimental design used was randomized blocks with six replications and four rows with 100 plants per plot. The traits evaluated were plant height, ear height, grain yield per plant (g plant-1) of C and H and grain yield per area. It was found that in H, plant height and ear height increased with the reduction in the percentage of C in the plot. In the case of the C contaminant plant, the opposite occurred. Yield (g plant-1) increased with the increase in the percentage of contaminating plants for both, C and H rose.. Every one percent of plants derived from the female parent (C) reduced grain yield by 58.4 kg ha-1 per area.
