Abstract: | The objective of this work was to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of the particleboard produced with Eucalyptus grandis wood in different radial positions. Three different radial regions (sapwood, heartwood and marrow) were evatuated and the mixture (whole log). The panels were produced with a nominal density of 0.70 g/cm³, 8% urea-formaldehyde adhesive and a pressing cycle of 160°C, 4 MPa pressure and pressing time of 8 minutes. From the physical and mechanical properties it can be concluded that: 1) The panels produced only with region of the heartwood were statistically equal to the panels produced from the full log in all physical and mechanical properties evaluated; complied with all requirements by the CS (1968) code; 2) The sapwood and heartwood regions of Eucalyptus grandis wood should not be used separately for particleboard production. |
