Abstract: Anthracnosis is one of the diseases that attack the common bean, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum lindemuthianum. In recent years, Colletotrichum spp lines, in the anamorphic and teleomorphic phases, have been isolated from anthracnose and scab lesions, the second an emerging disease on the common bean. These Colletotrichum lines have been investigated through morphological a nd pathogenic characterization. However, there is still no consensus on the phylogeny of these species involved in the Colletotrichum-anthracnose-scab-common bean pathosystem. Therefore, the objective of this work was to identify species associated with anthracnose and scab on the common bean through multilocus phylogenetic analysis and morphological characterization. We used 32 lines of the Colletotrichum genus isolated from anthracnose and scab lesions on common beans in the multilocus analysis for genes actin, β-tubulin, and GAPDH along with 28 GenBank accesses from the Colletotrichum genus. We also used morphological data from the lines to identify the species involved. The multilocus phylogenetic analysis indicated the association of the lines in four distinct clades, with six lines grouped in the C. lindemuthianum clade, one line in C plurivorum, seven lines associated with C. sojae, and two lines associated with C. karstii. The results from the multilocus phylogeny and morphological analyses showed that the lines associated with the C. lindemuthianum clade are the teleomorphic phase of C. lindemuthianum. Therefore, the lineages evaluated and associated with anthracnose and scab from the common bean belong to a complex composed by the species C. lindemuthianum, C. sojae, and C. karstii.
