A "marvada pinga": produção de cachaça e desenvolvimento em Salinas, Norte de Minas Gerais

Abstract

The following work had been realized with the objetive of analyzing the path of productíon of sugar cane brandy in Salinas, North of Minas Gerais and it's contribution to the local development using the qualitative research method and technique for the case study. The beginning of several theoretical studies on development, tried to undestand the reality of the north of Minas Gerais region and inparticular the municipality of Salinas, associating it's historical path to the both economic and social aspects. As the main dinamizador ofthe development process, the State acted in the área through organs such as SUDENE - which intum left negative consequences such as the alterationof the enviromental landscape with aprevailing high land concentration and also of increasing wealth amid a growing expansion of poverty. Through a theoretical íbcused research perfomed byseveral authors withrespect to brand and marketing, Salinas sugar cane brandy wasanalyzed, and the local brand "HAVANA",was considered to be, interms ofqualrty,as a national reference to sugar cane brandy. The Salinas sugar cane brandy business was decomposedto several productíon systems, andit*s producersclassified as; intermittent (those whoonlyproduce in years when there is na abundance ofsugar cane), professionals and managerial producers. Tnis categorization allowed the typifícation ofthe producers in agreementwith the productíonscaleas: a) mini; b)small;c)médium;and,d) greatproducers.The conclusionofthis research was that apart from the considerable economic importance that cutlivestocknas on the Salinas economy, in spiteofthe decliningherd,there is a dynamism present intheagroindustrialsection with prominence for the productíon of sugar cane brandy.Whereasofnowis going through expansion and confíguration, leaving it as na important agriculture employer, generating and producing weahh, therefore contributing to the development of the municipal district.
