Abstract: | The objective of this work was to evaluate, using physical and mechanical properties, the influence of different proportions of the candeia wood residue (Eremanthus erythropappus) associated with Eucalyptus and pine wood and two contents of adhesive to the particleboards. Used were: two contents of urea-formaldehyde adhesive (8% and 12%); Eucalyptus spp. and Pinus spp. woods in three percentages of incorporation (25%, 50%, 75%) to candeia wood residue, which was generated after oil extraction. The pressing cycle of the boards occurred under an electric heating temperature of 160oC; a pressure of 40 kgf/cm² and a time of 8 minutes. The evaluated properties, according to the standards ASTM D 1037-92 and CSA 236-66, were: internal bond, static bending (modulus of elasticity - MOE and modulus of rupture - MOR), compression parallel to the boards surface, water absorption and swelling thickness, after 2 and 24 hours immersion. The results showed that candeia wood residue was viable for particleboards manufacturing for all properties studied, except for the static bending test. The increase in candeia wood residue percentages promoted reduction in the MOE and MOR. The use of 12% resin content instead of 8% content contributed to the internal bond and compression parallel properties. |
