Resumo: | Introduction: The gut microbiota plays a prominent role in the pathophysiology of obesity and metabolic diseases, but the mechanisms involved have not yet been fully described. Due to this fact, intestinal microbiota manipulations became a possibility for interventions, as a potential therapy for the treatment of obesity. The present study aimed to evaluate intake modulating effects of the probiotic bacterium Lactococcus Lactis in cardiometabolic risk variables in obese individuals. Methods: We selected 52 adult, obese individuals that attended the CEM (Medical Specialty Center) in the city of Três Corações-MG, who had high waist circumference, and some cardiometabolic risk factor associated with obesity, such blood pressure > 130 mmHg (systolic) or > 85 mmHg (diastolic), triglycerides > 150 mg/dL, HDL-c < 40 mg/dL for men, and < 50 mg/dL for women, Blood glucose > 100 mg/dl, or under drug treatment for these changes. This is a 90-day intervention, randomized, prospective, triple-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Volunteers were randomized into two groups: (i) placebo - received capsules containing 20mg celulose/day (n = 26) and (ii) probiotic - received capsules containing 20mg of probiotic Lactococcus lactis (LMG 27352), at concentration of 2x10⁹ CFU / day (n = 26). Anthropometric measurements and body composition assessment were performed using electrical bioimpedance, application of 24-hour food records and biochemical analyzes of the metabolic profile such as: complete blood count, fasting glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), serum insulin, total cholesterol (CT) , high density lipoprotein (HDL-c), low density lipoprotein (LDL-c), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL-c), triacylglycerols (TGs), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), range glutaryltransferase (GGT), and calculating the Homa-IR SPSS software (version 20.0) was used for statistical analysis. Results: Of the 52 participants, 41 (78,8%) were female and 11 (21,2%) were male. There were no significant effects of supplementation on anthropometric variables and body composition. In relation to biochemical parameters, only the triglyceride variable showed a significant change after probiotic supplementation, beeing the mean at the beginning 135.4mg / dL and the at end at 164.1mg / dL (P = 0.010). Food energy intake was similar in the two studied moments, but carbohydrates intakes increased in both groups during the intervention, and there was an increase in sodium consumption in the probiotic group. Conclusion: Treatment with the Lactococcus lactis strain for 12 weeks alone without dietary intervention did not show effects on biochemical, anthropometric and body composition parameters in obese individuals. |
