Resumo: Speleology and speleobiology are subjects poorly explored in classrooms. These themes served as objectives for our research, providing a focus for the educator formation. The objective of this work is to demonstrate the importance of a good formation, alerting the teachers that the experience of the students for learning formative concepts is very important, sometimes more important than the scientific knowledge. For that purpose, we made a bibliographical survey of didactic books and a survey of alternative conceptions with students of two state schools and from the Biology course of the UFMG. Through a questionnaire, the students have characterized a cave with its particularities. All the responses had been analyzed. It was observed that the majority of the students used their common sense and imaginary to answer the questions or represent a cave. However, the biology students had ignored such strategies, supporting themselves exclusively in the scientific knowledge, many times erroneous.
