Resumo: The concern with the initial formation of teachers has been increasing in recent times and, with this, the search for alternative methods to be used as problematizing elements in the classroom, element that can help in the appropriation of the contents taught and, consequently, for the training of students with a critical reflexive bias in order to help students build their knowledge and understand in their integrity and world around them. In this perspective, the objective of this work is to analyze how alternative methodologies assist in the construction of knowledge, based on an experience in the discipline of Science Teaching Methodology of the licentiate course in Biological Sciences of the Federal University of Lavras-MG. The practice consisted in the construction of the concept of Biome and Biodiversity from the use of Role-playing game (RPG) as pedagogical strategy. At the end of the practice, it was proposed that the students make a written evaluation. These reports were used for the analysis of the present study using the qualitative research method. The results show the efficiency of the pedagogical methodology in aiding the construction and appropriation of the concept taught and, in addition, also show the importance of the discipline in the initial formation of teachers.
