Resumo: | Among the reconstituted wood panels, one with increasing worldwide application are OSB panels. However, wood, when subjected to weathering, suffers damage observed by the variation of natural color, compromising its physical and mechanical properties. The objective of this study was the analysis of the colorimetric properties of wood panels after the action of natural and artificial weathering, correlating its effects with physical and mechanical properties on the panels. The panel used in this study was manufactured by LP Brazil. 250mm long, 50mm wide and 16mm thick specimens were placed at 20°C and 65% of relative humidity for at least 48h before exposure to weathering. The study comprised four treatments: control (T1), natural weathering (T2) and two artificial weathering methods: UVA (T3) and UVB (T4). Some properties were evaluated after the exposure period such as density, dimensional change, bending strength and color change. The results of this study show that the effect of natural weathering was the most aggressive analyzed from the resulting significant degradation of the surface, given the high color variation, and considerable reduction in modulus of rupture. |
