Abstract: | The aim of this article is to understand whether it is possible for human being to have rational control over his disposition or character (hexis) according to the ethical investigation of Aristotle. Human capacity to interfere with the goals of their morally valuable actions is a well-known question. Yet, we still need to understand whether the agent also has an active role in shaping her disposition, which would be the basis for the human behavior in a broad way. It is also necessary to consider about the role of the education of human beings, everyone goes through a phase in which she relies on the guidelines of someone who is already morally prepared. This may be decisive throughout adult life. The Aristotelian argument about disposition requires investigating the soul, that is a fundamental aspect of the moral education. All possible changes of character require a shift of this profound dimension of human beings. |
