Dimensões das capacidades organizacionais: evidências de PMEs exportadoras mineiras

Abstract

This paper measures and categorizes small and medium-sized (SME) exporting firms from the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais with respect to their organizational capabilities along three dimensions: productive, innovative and managerial. The sample consisted of 45 small and medium-sized firms. Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire. Principal components analysis was used to identify indicators of greater weight on the dimensions analyzed and the weighted average for categorizing the company's capabilities. Results revealed greater weighting for the managerial dimension of organizational capability, followed by the innovative dimension and finally the productive dimension. The results suggest that in these small and medium-sized companies management is the major factor for achieving competitive advantage, followed by the learning capacity of the company. Aspects related to productive capacity were of less importance. The results contribute to understanding the heterogeneity of the organizational competencies of SME exporters from Minas Gerais state, and to consolidating research with respect to organizational capabilities.
